1st human case of Lyme disease reported in Windsor

Health officials confirmed Windsor's firsthuman case ofLyme disease, according to the Windsor-EssexCounty Health Unit.

Dr.WajidAhmed, associate medical officer of health for theWindsor-EssexCounty Health Unit, urges residents to protect themselves against ticks when outdoors.

Health officials in May scoured areas of tall grass, looking fordisease-carrying ticks that could be harmful to humans. They looked at areas likeOjibway Park, to search for black-legged ticks that are known to carry the bacteria that causes Lyme disease.

These ticks are a crawling, non-flying insect that feed on blood.
