Windsor digs out from record snowfall

Most of Windsor's main streets were cleared from heavy snowfall Monday morning with city crews working throughout the day Sunday salting and plowing.

Environment Canada recorded a record single-day snowfall at Windsor International Airport with 29 cm falling Sunday.

DwayneDawson, the city's executive director of operations said the forecast from the national weather agency got them ready for the storm.

"We rolled out approximately at 2 a.m. and started placing some salt down," Dawson said.

The city said it continuedto plow on the expressway, the arterial roads and the collector streets into Monday. Dawson said depending on the snowfall, the city may be able to plow residential streets Monday morning.

"When we roll out into the residential neighbourhood, anybody who can keep their cars off the road, it would make a big difference in us being able to clear the roads to their full potential," Dawson said.
