Amherstburg council grants mayor three-month sick leave extension

In addition to granting mayor Aldo DiCarlo an additional three months of sick leave, Amherstburg town council also approved a replacement for both DiCarlo and deputy mayor Leo Meloche in the event of both their absences.

Deputy mayor Leo Meloche said mayor Aldo DiCarlo will be allowed to extend his leave to recuperate

Amherstburg mayor Aldo DiCarlo has been absent from council since April 23, 2019.

Amherstburg town council has extended mayor Aldo DiCarlo's sick leaves by three months as a means of allowing him extra time to recover from health issues.

Deputy and acting mayor Leo Meloche didn't comment on DiCarlo's illness to protect the mayor's privacy.

DiCarlo has been absent from council meetings since April 23, 2019, and informed the public that he was "under a doctor's care" in a June 12, 2019 Facebook post.

As per Amherstburg bylaws, the mayor is allowed a medical leave of three months, Meloche explained.

In addition to approving an additional three months of sick leave, town council voted to have Coun. Michael Prue replace either Meloche or DiCarlo in either of their absences.

Still, Meloche said that "it's been business as usual" since he took over DiCarlo's duties.

"For the last two-and-a-half-months, things have been quietly going [about] their business," said Meloche.

"He's been recuperating at home, and [I'm] hopeful that he'll be in action in a month or so."
