Bluesfest Windsor draws between 25,000 and 30,000 people

Organizers of the 21st Annual Bluesfest Windsor say between 25,000 and 30,000 people attended the event at Windsor's Festival Plaza over the weekend.

The band War and keyboardist Gregg Rolie headlined the three-day event.

Sunday also featured the Bluesfest "All-Star Jam and Jaw."

Bluesfest founder Ted Boomer says it was a chance for people to interact with some world class musicians.

"They get up front and personal with all these great stars," he said. "I mean where else do you get to see a guy that played Woodstock, and you can be a 12-year-old asking him questions from five feet away from him?

"It's very personal, up close, so we always try and add a new thing here or there."

Windsor's Christian Vegh helped cap off the event.

Boomer says this year was among the best in the event's history.

"The weather couldn't have been better, All the bands were on time, the crowds were on fire," he said. "It was just almost a perfect weekend."

Bluesfest also sponsored Friday evening's International tug of war, with Windsor firefighters defeating their counterparts from Detroit in a tug of war across the Detroit River.
