About 1,000 motorcycles hit the roads of Windsor-Essex for the annual Bob Probert Ride on Sunday.

The event raised money in support of cardiac care.

Probert was the former NHL player who died of a heart attack while boating on Lake St. Clair four years ago.

His widow, Dani Probert, was thinking of him before she got on her own bike.

"I could hear him in my head with his famous chuckle, maybe giving a couple of his duck calls," she said.

The ride route took people from Windsor through Amherstburg, Colchester, Essex, Belle River and back into the city.

The event has raised more than $300,000 for cardiac care.

Dani Probert says the support for this event keep memories alive.

"He'd be amazed. He'd be shocked, I think. Really surprised." Dani Probert said. "I want his legacy to be carried on in this way, and its a positive way.

"Losing him was so tragic that this is something positive."
