Bottled water will be made available to "vulnerable populations" in Wheatley and Tilbury this week as a boil water advisory for the municipality stretches on following a fire last week.

In a release, the municipality said the water will be distributed for free through the Wheatley Resource Centre and Tilbury Food Bank.

The community has been under a boil water advisory for more than a week after a fire broke out at the Wheatley water treatment plant last week.

Officials said recently it could be more than a year before the plant is back up and running, although the boil water advisory is not necessarily expected to last that long.

During a boil water advisory water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute prior to consumption. the order will remain in place until further notice.
