CBSA puts cap on number of officers deployed out of southern Ont.

No more than 12 border guards from southern Ontario shouldbe deployed to help the situation in Quebec at any given time, the Canadian Border Services Agency said in an email to CBC News.

It's in response to some concern of border delays at different ports of entry across Canada due to additional staff needed in the Quebec region.

The CBSArecently sent a memo to its officers, asking for volunteers to temporarily re-locate to Quebec where they're seeing aninflux of immigrants.

"The officers being deployed will be from various areas within regional operationsnot all frontline officers," CBSAspokespersonJaydenRobertson said.

"We expect this deployment to have minimal to no impact on regional operations."

The CBSA said interested officers can apply to help asylum seekers. The RCMP's latest figures indicate 7,612 people entered the country outside official ports of entry during the first four months of 2018. More than 7,300 of them have crossed the Canada-U.S. border into Quebec.

The memo indicatedthe assignment would start May 28, 2018 and rununtil September 16, 2018 or beyond.
