Devonshire Mall will undergo a $70-million renovation, the mall announced Tuesday.

It will be the largest and most comprehensive renovation of Devonshire Mall in the last 20 years, a news release said.

The renovation features a complete redevelopment of the former Target store, which previously occupied an area of approximately 120,000 square feet.

As CBC Windsor was first to report, a new Metro grocery store is a key new tenant in the space, which will also feature other retailers.

New dining options are also part of the makeover. A new food court, with an expanded seating area, will feature new dining options as well as familiar vendors.

Construction is underway and is expected to continue in phases through 2018.

"This is an exciting time for the centre," Devonshire Mall general manager Chris Savard said in the release. "This program reaffirms Devonshire Mall's commitment to remaining the premier shopping destination in the Windsor area and serving all of the community's shopping and entertainment needs."
