Historic Assumption Church opens doors during special feast

The doors of Windsor's Assumption Church were open Sunday as hundreds gathered for an outdoor mass, celebratory feast and to tour the historic house of worship.

The building that was closed in 2014 after 170 years due to a need for an estimated $12 million in repairs.

Jackie Robitaille attended Sunday's mass. Her grandfather once sang in the choir there, and she herself started singing at Assumption when she was 12.

"It's a family heritage thing, a regional history thing, and also for me, the music," she explained."I'm a musician and it's where I kind of got my roots and training as a musician."

The doors of Assumption will be open to the public again tomorrow evening for a conference on the history of the region and parish.
