Production of a new engine at the Ford Annex in Windsor will bring 500 jobs to Windsor, according to the president of Unifor Local 200.

Chris Taylor told CBC news a new production will be installed at the Annex in an area where a former product used to be built.

"The place will be humming," Taylor said.

The 280 employees currently on layoff will be absorbed with the 500 new jobs.

Any future job losses will be prevented when the Windsor Engine plant loses production of the 6.8 litreV-10 truck and EconolineVan engine.

Taylor isn't sure when that will happen.

Taylor hopes to meet with company representatives soon to get more information about the new product that was secured in the new contract ratified over the weekend.

Ford is investing more than $600 million in the plant.

Windsor Ford workers showed overwhelmingsupport forthe new deal with 88.7 pre cent of workers voting in favour.
