Unifor marks Labour Day ahead of announcing Detroit Three target in contract talks

Union members are celebrating Labour Day with their annual parade in Windsor, one day before Unifor announces which Detroit Three automakers it will target in contract negotiations.
The Labour Day Parade will make its way down Walker Road starting at about 10 a.m. Monday.

Union members are celebrating Labour Day with their annual parade in Windsor, one day before Unifor announces which Detroit Three automakerit will target in contract negotiations.

The parade route began at Unifor's union hall on Turner Road, snaking down Walker Road.Fiat Chrysler's Windsor Assembly Plant could be seenin the background for much of the parade.

Windsor Assembly is home to thousands of unionized autoworkers with Unifor Local 444 building minivans for Chrysler. Unifor also represents 1,300 unionizedautoworkers at Ford Motor Co.'s operations in the city.

After the parade, labour leaders from across the city spoke at the Fogolar Furlan.

In his speech, Unifor Local 444 presidentDino Chiodo,wouldn't provide any hints on whether the unionwould target Ford, General Motors or Fiat Chrysler in contract negotiations but promised a strike if proposed contracts don't include new auto investment in Canada.

The union is threatening job action if it doesn't get an agreement before midnight on Sept. 19.
