LaSalle police warn of Jamaican Lottery Scam

LaSalle police are advising people to be cautious after a local person fell victim to a scam claiming the person had won a brand new Mercedes Benz and $2.5 million dollars.

LaSalle police are advising people to be cautious after a local person fell victim to a scam claiming the person hadwon a brand new Mercedes Benz and $2.5 million dollars.

Police call this the Jamaican Lottery Scam. The fraudsters claimed they were with the Vegas Gaming Commission and thatthe victim had won some type of sweepstakes.

The victim was asked to wire transfer $4,500 in processing fees through Western Union.

The scam artistseven had phone numbers listed in Las Vegas, which police believe were likely fakenumbers.

Despite some research done by the victimonline they were unable to find and red flags, police said.

The victim ended up losing $4,500.
