Man rescued from Detroit River by police who borrowed kayaks

A man was pulled from the Detroit River by Windsor police officers who borrowed kayaks from a nearby resident Sunday.

A man was pulled from the Detroit River by Windsor police officers who borrowed kayaks from a nearby resident Sunday.

The man was found clinging tothe metal breakwall just west of Lesperance Road at about 9:15 p.m. Sunday.

When they arrived, officersspoke tonearby cooperativehomeowners who letthem usetheir kayaks in the rescue.

Windsor Fire and Rescue and Windsor-Essex EMS both arrived to help by providing spotlights and a life jacket.

Officershelped the man stay safe until more help arrived.Nearby residents in aboat saw what was going on and helped officers get the man on board and back to the rear break wall where EMS took over.

Paramedics then took the man to hospital for treatment.
