However, Marra will still be on the ballot, runningagain for councillor in the newly-formed Ward 8.

Marra is a four-term veteran of council, who took a three-year hiatus from 2003-2006.

"Where I'm at in my life today is quite different than my circumstances in 2003," said Marra.

"I have a lot of other compelling responsibilities that I feel I want to fulfill. There's no reason to not believe that running for mayor in the future is out of the question. It's something that I certainly wouldn't rule out."

Francis has not said if he'll seek re-election, telling CBC he has too many important projects on the go to slow down and decide about a campaign.

"Right now, these files, which some of these projects will be introduced in the next several weeks, they're of such scope and such magnitude in terms of job creation, I think people will understand why my focus and my energy needs to be poured into that," said Francis.

There are currently four candidates for mayor: Anthony Brothers, Ernie Lamont, Sam Sinjari and Robert W. Vinson.

Election day for all municipalities across Ontario is Oct. 25.
