Matt Marchandhas officially resigned from his role as president and CEO of the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce Friday at 10 p.m. His resignation will be effective starting July 3.

In an email release sent by the Windsor-Essex regional board of directors, it says Janice Forsyth will assume the role of acting president and CEO.

Forsythwas previously a chair of the chamber.

Marchandannounced his desire to run for mayor in the upcoming municipal elections mid-June, which raised questions about his role at the Chamber for the campaign period.

At the time, the board of directors of the chamber of commerce announced Forsyth will step in as acting president and CEO.

On Friday night when the release was sent, the chamber board thanked Marchand for his "six years of dedicated service."

"As the policy of the WERCC is that it does not comment on personnel issues, there will be no further comment on this matter," the email reads.

Marchand will be running against Tom Hensel, Ernie Lamont and Frank Dyck in the October race. Mayor Drew Dilkens has not yet announced whether he will seek a second term.
