A grocery store owned by the Metro company will eventually open at the site of the former Target at Devonshire Mall, Metro Ontario Inc., confirmed to CBC on Thursday.

"At this time, we do not have a definitive date for a store opening at the Devonshire location. That is all the information I have available at this point," communications specialist Mark Bernhardt said in an email.

Metro Ontario Inc. owns the Metro and Food Basics banners in Ontario. Bernhardt did not say which banner would open at Devonshire Mall.

Devonshire Mall declined comment Wednesday, but said an announcement about plans for the former Target space is coming soon.

Demolition crews are currently tearing down parts of the former Target store. It closed last spring.
