National Airlines begins service from Windsor to Orlando

National Airlines will offer twice-weekly flights to Orlando out of Windsor, hoping to draw a mix of sun-seekers and snowbirds' friends and family members.

The first National Airlines flight will depart from Windsor to Orlando at 2:30 p.m. today.

National Airlines will offer twice-weekly flights to Orlando out of Windsor, hoping to draw a mix of sun-seekers and snowbirds'friends and family members.

The airline flies to Orlando Sanford International Airport, which is about one hour from Disney World and about 30 minutes from downtown Orlando.

A round-trip ticket on Thursday cost $399.70, tax included.

Edward Davidson, the airline's president and chief operating officer, said the plan to bring these flights to Windsor has been in the works for months.

Davidson said Thursday prior to takeoff that many flights are already sold out and the airline is eyeing expansion and flights to other Florida cities.

The airline believes that it will serve a market of vacationers, as well astravellers looking to visit friends and family in Florida.

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens said Thursday marks a great moment for Windsor. He and his family have already booked tickets to Orlando on National Airlines.
