Parks open house draws ideas for 27 parks

The City of Windsor parks department held an open house Thursdaynight at the Caboto Club to hear input from the public about what amenities they want to see in their favourite parks.

The city is spending $6.5 million on new playground equipment in 27 parks across Windsor.

Heidi Baillargeon is a landscape architect with the city. She said they have heard several ideas.

"We've been hearing anything from zip lines, to castles to dinosaur themes - a lot of good positive feedback," said Baillargeon.

John Konopaski was there with his wife and five kids. He says his children are interested in improvements to Brumpton Park.

"They want to see a new playground. Some swings. Basketball court. The general things," said Konopaski.

Joe Zagar came to the meeting with his wife Andrea. They want to see playground equipment in Flora Park that their two young children won't outgrow too quickly.

"Swings obviously, meshing in well with the green space around and the trail and a slide and some climbing activities," said Zagar.

Some of the parks will the themed.

The city is taking input until the end of the month, and residents can make suggestions online or by calling 311.

The parks department hopes to get all the work done next year but it has two years to complete it. Work has already begun on Bellewood Park.
