It will last just two hours and it will bring you up to speed on what is happening in the world of stem cells.

Stem Cells 101: The Promise and the Potential is a public event that the Ontario Institute for Regenerative Medicine is holding in a handful of cities across the province between now and next month.

It aims to answer a series of questions for those who attend, including what kind of stem-cell treatments are being developed and which ones are likely to be delivered in the future.

The first event is taking place at Western University on Tuesday night.

Lauren Flynn, an associate professor who is part of Western's Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, said there is a lot of exciting stem-cell research taking place in Ontario right now.

"I think that stem cells have huge promise and one of the things, Ontario really has a rich legacy of stem-cell researchers and people are developing therapies for almost every disease and disorder that you can imagine,"she told CBC Radio's Afternoon Drive in an interview on Tuesday.

The Tuesday event at Western runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. It is being held at the International Graduate Affairs Building.

People living in Hamilton will be able to check out Stem Cells 101 on Thursday. An event will be held in Toronto on April 26 and in Ottawa on May 10.
