Tornado clean up sucks $177K from Windsor budget

A slew of city departments responded in the aftermath of the tornadoes with the biggest costs accrued by public works with an estimated $87,000 spent in traffic division and another $48,500 from parks.

A tornado touched down in LaSalle, Ont. on August 24. It damaged houses and businesses in LaSalle. The tornadothat tore through Windsor in August cost the city an estimated$177,000 in damages, according to the latest figures produced by city staff.

A slew of city departments responded in the aftermath of the tornadoes with the biggest costs accrued by public works with an estimated $87,000 spent in its traffic division and another $48,500 from its parks division.

Windsor fire department, which spent about $13,000, while police spent an estimated $12,700.

The city could end up spending anadditional $85,000 to fully repair the traffic sign structure at EC Row Expressway and Central Avenue. Temporary repair have already been completed, but more work needs to be done, according to the report.
