West end's South Tilston Park could soon be for sale

The City of Windsor is looking at selling off South Tilston Park, a small park in the Bridgeview neighbourhood on Windsor's west end.

Public meeting to be held Wednesday night to discuss park's future

Anyone in the market for a small patch of land on Windsor's west side could be in luck as long as the buyer don't mind having a play structure on the property.

The City of Windsor is looking at selling off a small park in the Bridgeview neighbourhood.

However, some people in the neighbourhood don't like the idea.

Carol Carter is one of them. She lives on Tilston Drive, across from one of two parks the city hopes to sell.

It's looking to sell off South Tilston Park and Long Park in east Windsor.

Carter can't understand the city's decision. She said the park is always busy.

"There's a ton of kids around here," she said. "My grandchildren use it; everybody uses it around this area."

Mike Clement, of the parks department, said selling off South Tilston could be good for people in the area.

"In that section of town there's six parks of that size within a few blocks of each other," he said. "So, we're just looking at how we might be able to consolidate those parks and then improve the parks that will remain."

The city describes the .64-acre park as "pocket-sized" and "surplus."

Carter disagrees. She thinks selling the park is a quick cash grab.

"I don't think parks should be disposed of so readily," she said.

A public meeting on the issue will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday night at the College Avenue Community Centre.
