Windsor Airport sees increase in traffic

The number of travellers flying out of Windsor International Airport has nearly doubled since Porter Airlines began servicing Windsor in late April.

The number of travellers flying out of Windsor International Airport has nearly doubled since Porter Airlines began servicing Windsor in late April.

Windsor airport saw 9,255 people fly out in May 2010. A year later during the month of May, those passengers numbered 16,871.

The airport serviced more than 20,000 passengers between June and October this year.

Those numbers may grow again in 2012, particularly in fall and winter, because airport president and CEO Federica Nazzani has been meeting with a large low-cost airline based in the U.S. in hopes to lure the service to Windsor.

It is an airline which services Florida, a destination that Nazzani confirms is popular among local travellers.

"We've done a number of studies this year that tell us ... what the key markets to target are,"Nazzani told CBC News.

She said thatOrlando andFort Lauderdale are two locations in demand.
