Dwight Duncan named head of Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority

Dwight Duncan has been named the chairman of the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority, according to an announcement from federal Infrastructure Minister Amarjeet Sohi.

Dwight Duncan has been named the chairman of the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority, according to a federal government announcement Wednesday.

Infrastructure Minister Amarjeet Sohiappointed Duncan to a five-year term as head of the bridge authority, which is overseeing the construction of the Gordie Howe International Bridge.

Duncan was made interim leader on Jan. 1, replacing former chairman Mark McQueen.

Sohi had high praise for Duncan, who has been in the position for nearly a year.

"His experience in effectively managing complex and sensitive files, paired with his deep knowledge and passion for the region will be pivotal in assuring the advancement of this organization,"Sohi said in a written statement.

During a visit to Windsor in November, Duncan announced the bridge authority's $1-million investment to study the potential economic impact of the GordieHowebridge.

The study is a joint partnership with the University of Windsor and Michigan State University.Both schools will examine and quantify the economic benefits from the construction of the new bridge, along with economic development stemming from the new crossing once it's in service.
