Male tortoiseshell kitten at Windsor humane society 'rare' and needs a home

A special kitten has made its way from Leamington to the Windsor Essex County Humane Society a male tortoiseshell cat and it's up for adoption.

His name is Klinger and he'sfour months old. The humane society says it's "rare"because the orange and black fur he has is typically only seen in female kittens.

"The gene that controls orange and black fur colour is found on the X chromosome," according to the humane society. Females have two X chromosomes and males have have an X and a Y.

Orange and black male cats often have an extra chromosome two Xs and one Y.

Klinger has three siblings, named Hawkeye, Radar and Houlihan, names of M*A*S*H characters.

The humane society is accepting applications to adopt until end of Saturday, and the person who gets to go home with Klinger will be "chosen at random from all qualified applicants."
