5-year-old girl drowns in swimming pool at South Windsor home

A five-year-old girl has died from drowning in a backyard swimming pool on Monday, Windsor police say.

A five-year-old girl drowned in a backyard swimming pool on Monday, Windsor police say.

Just before 9 p.m. officers responded to a report of a drowning at a residence in the 4200 block of Barton Crescent in South Windsor, police said in a news release on Tuesday.

When officers arrived they "quickly recovered the child from the bottom of the home's backyard pool," the release reads.

Officers and personnel from Windsor Fire and Rescue Services performed first aidpending the arrival of emergency medical services, police say.

Despite the efforts of first responders, the child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Monday's incident marks the second death of a child in a swimming pool in the Windsor-Essex area in just over a week.

On Aug. 31emergency services responded to a Huffman Road address in Harrow after a child was found unresponsive in a swimming pool.

Ontario Provincial Police said the infant was transported to hospital and was pronounced dead.
