Paul Borrelli joining Windsor city council race, 6 others file paperwork

More people have stepped forward to be the next ward councillor in the upcoming municipal election, including Ward 10 incumbent Paul Borrelli, who was involved in some conflict with a candidate's campaign manager.

With less than a week left before the nomination period for the municipal election ends, seven more candidates have filed their paperwork.

Incumbent Paul Borrelli first announced his intentions to run for re-election in Ward 10 last week, but he did not officially file his paperwork until July 20.

It could be an interesting race.

Borrelli said candidate Jim Morrison's campaign manager has made "an assault" on his reputation by saying Borrelliused ward funds inappropriately to buy Facebook ads before declaring his candidacy.

"I did not use ward funds to do any advertising at any time," he said.

The city is not investigating because Borrelli was not a candidate at the time.

Borrelli maintains he "cannot get close to ward funds" because they're held by the city and he can only give direction as to where he wants to see them be used.

Aside from Jim Morrison, Mohamed Chams is also running for Ward 10.

Remaining wards

In Ward 6, new candidate Jeff Denomme will be going against Josh Jacquot and incumbent Jo-Anne Gignac.

Last week, Ward 7 still had no candidate, but now Albert Saba has stepped forward.

Ward 8 is a bit of a hot spot with three new candidates having filed their paperwork Lisa Valente, PattiHayes and Gemma Grey-Hall. They will be joining Greg Lemay and Kathryn MacDonell in the race.

The ward is likely to get a new councillor, because incumbent Bill Marra has said he doesn't intend to run for re-election.

Hilary Payne has also announced he is seeking re-election in Ward 9.

There is still no candidate in Ward 3.

The municipal elections are held Oct. 22. Voters will elect a mayor, ward councillors and school board trustees.
