5th suspect charged with assault after incidents posted on social media: Windsor police

Windsor, Ont., police have arrested a fifth person following two apparent assaults that circulated on social mediaat the end of last month.

All 5 are charged with aggravated assault and robbery

Windsor, Ont., police have arrested a fifth person following two apparent assaults that circulated on social mediaat the end of last month.

In a news release, police said 19-year-old Windsor resident Tyrell Patterson was arrested Tuesday just after noon. Along with the other accused, he's been charged with aggravated assault and robbery.

The four other accused are Tyler Ducharme and Jacob Yoell both 18 and also from Windsor andtwo youths, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police said officers from their problem-oriented policing unit (POP) and patrol officers arrested Patterson.

The incidents are still under investigation,according to police.

The apparent assaultstook place in the early morning ofAug. 27 against two men one of whom was seriously injured. The incidents occurredone hour apart.

The first incident happened around 4:20 a.m. nearWyandotte Street East and GoyeauStreet, police said. The second incident, police said,took place at 5:20 a.m. around Church Street and Pitt Street West.

Since these incidents, several others have taken place in and around the downtown, leading police to increase their presence.
