Windsor police receive nearly $85K grant to fight pharmacy crime

Windsor police have received a $84,867 grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, to help fight pharmacy crime in Windsor-Essex.

Windsor-Essex region has 147 pharmacies, 100 of them in Windsor alone

Windsor policehave received a$84,867grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, to help fight pharmacy crime in Windsor Essex.

There are 147 pharmacies in Windsor Essex, and 100 of them are in Windsor alone, according to a police service media release.

All local police services in Windsor Essex will participate in the initiative, including the LaSallepolice and Amherstburg police as well as the Essex County Pharmacists Association.

The crime prevention plan has three stages. Thefirst is for individual pharmacies tocomplete a safety questionnaire. Then, police in each jurisdiction will conduct a crime preventionassessment of each location. The final step is for the initiative to implement techniques designed to reduce the identified and targeted crimes.

The grant fundsfrom the ministry areforfeited to the province, followingcriminal prosecutions, after being seized as proceeds of crime.

The money isthenmade available to police services through a system of grants to fund local community safety and well-being initiatives.
