City distributing sandbags for at-risk riverfront homes

More rain in the forecast meansthe City of Windsor is making sandbags available to at-risk residents.

While there's 'no imminent risk,' of flooding, according to the city, the sandbags will be available to homes which might have the greatest risk of flooding.

Residents who live north of Riverside Drive from Goose Bay Park east to the border of the Town of Tecumsehcan pick up sandbags Wednesday. Proof of address will be required to receive the materials.

A sandbag station will be set up at 9410 Little River Road between noon and 8 p.m.on weekdays and 9 a.m.to 5 p.mon Saturdays, starting Wednesday. That depot will be available until May 22, depending on demand.

On weekdays and Saturdays, a staff member will be on hand but will not assist with filling the bags. The city has asked anyone interested in volunteering register with 311 online.

City officials continue to monitor water levels along Lake St. Clair, the Detroit River and Little River.
