No longer number 1, Windsor's unemployment rate dips slightly

Windsor-Essex'sunemployment rate fell slightly in September, andthe region no longer has the country's highest unemployment rate.

Windsor-Essex'sunemployment rate fell slightly in September, andthe region no longer has the country's highest unemployment rate.

The unemployment rate was 8.9 for the month, compared with 9.2 per cent for August, Statistics Canada said Friday.

The region, which includes Essex County, also grew by about 1,400 residents last month, according to Statistics Canada.

The city still has thesecond highest jobless rate out of35major cities, but Edmonton is number oneat nineper cent.

The national unemployment rate stood at6.5 per cent, compared with 6.6 per cent in August.

The monthly unemployment rate is a seasonally adjusted three-month moving average.
