$300K Rivard fire sends woman to hospital for smoke inhalation

Windsor Fire and Rescue Services responded to a second-floor fire in a seniors building at Rivard Avenue and Tecumseh Road Tuesday morning.

Investigation reveals the fire started in the bedroom of a second-floor suite

A second-floor fire in a seniors building at Rivard Avenue and Tecumseh Road East Tuesday morning sent one to hospital and resulted in $300,000 damage.

The fire was contained to one unit. Fire officials rescued a woman off her balcony and she was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

As of 9:30 p.m., Windsor fire says she's in "critical but stable condition."

Firefighters on site told CBC Windsor when they arrived flames were shooting out the unit window.

The building was not evacuated residents "sheltered in place in their units," tweeted the fire service.

Two Windsor fire investigators were at the site to determine the cause of the fire.

The fire department says the cause is undetermined but not suspicious. The damage breakdown is $80,000 to the suite where the fire started, and $220,000 to the building.
