If elected, Premier Wade MacLauchlan says he will not take the full premier's salary.

Instead, he will take what a cabinet minister and the Opposition leader makes.

The premier of Prince Edward Island is entitled to receive a salary of more than $143,000.

That was increased on Wednesday.

MacLauchlan says if he is elected, his salary will only be $116,000, a savings of $27,000.

The premier says he is leading by example in times of government fiscal restraint.

Two MLAs, Buck Watts and Bush Dumville have also said if they are re-elected, they will not draw thepensions they are entitled to receive when they are 71 years old.

The pensioncan be drawn along with their salary of $68,721.

Rather than draw the pension, the two will donate the pension to charity.
