Abductee's family blasts planned movie

The family of a woman who was abducted, held captive and abused for 18 years is blasting a filmmaker's plan to turn her ordeal into a movie.

The family of a woman who was abducted, held captive and abused for 18 years is blasting a filmmaker's plan to turn her ordeal into a movie.

Only Jaycee Dugard and her family should decide whether a film is made about her and the director's plan is "exploitive, hurtful and breathtakingly unkind," Dugard family spokeswoman Nancy Seltzer said in a statement.

Seltzer issued the statement after low-budget horror and adult film director Shane Ryan told a Sacramento, Calif.,TV station about his plans to begin production on a movie based on Dugard's experience, entitled Abducted Girl: An American Sex Slave.

"We want to capture how sad this story is, but also how interesting. We're trying to figure out a way to do that so it's not exploitative," Ryan told Sacramento station KCRA.

Ryan's films include such titles as Amateur Porn Star Killer, Sex Kids Party and Warning: Pedophile Released.

He said the intention is to focus on the relationship between Dugard and Phillip Garrido, the man who is charged with abducting her in 1991 and holding her captive and assaulting her over the subsequent 18 years. He is also believed to be the father of the 29-year-old Dugard's two daughters.

Garrido and his wife, Nancy, are in jail awaiting trial afterpleading not guilty to a host of charges, including rape and kidnapping, in August.

Because the criminal case is ongoing, Ryan could face legal obstacles in producing the film, a lawyer told the Sacramento station.
