Leonard Cohen's son, Adam, is thanking the public for its condolences following the death of his father.

"With only immediate family and a few lifelong friends present, he was lowered into the ground in an unadorned pine box, next to his mother and father," Adam Cohensaid in aFacebookmessage posted Saturday night. "Exactly as he'd asked."

The poet and songwriter, who was born in Westmount, part of Montreal, died Monday in Los Angeles at the age of 82 and was buried Thursday in a family plot in Montreal.

Cohen commended his father's "unique blend of self-deprecation and dignity, his approachable elegance" and"his charisma without audacity."

Musician Adam Cohen collaborated with father Leonard for the first time on his 2016 record, You Want It Darker.

"There's so much I wish I could thank him for, just one last time," he said.

"I'd thank him for the comfort he always provided, for the wisdom he dispensed, for the marathon conversations, for his dazzling wit and humour."

Leonard Cohen, known forsongs like Hallelujah, Suzanne and Bird on a Wire, released an album just weeks before he died. You WantIt Darker was produced by his son.

The younger Cohen also thanked his father's fans in the post.

"Thank you for your kind messages, for the outpouring of sympathy and for your love of my father."
