Adams to join Canadian Music Hall of Fame

Canadian singer-songwriter Bryan Adams is to be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Adams, who had a string of hits such as Run to You, Summer of '69 and Heaven in the 1980s and 1990s, was recently in Pakistan playing to help raise money for earthquake aid.

Adams will be honoured at the 2006 Juno Awards on April 2 in Halifax at the annual awards gala for the Canadian music scene.

"Bryan is one of Canada's most admired artists and one of our leading ambassadors," said Melanie Berry, president of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), which runs the Music Hall of Fame.

In its statement, CARAS praised the Grammy-winning Adams as the first Canadian artist to sell a million copies with Reckless, his 1984 album.

He was also a key player in Canada's relief effort for Ethiopia, participating on the song Tears Are Not Enough, and played for Live 8 last year. His most recent album is the two-disc retrospective Anthology.

Adams haswritten several film songs, including Everything I Do, I Do Itfor You for Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and All for Lovefor The Three Musketeers.

CARAS established the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1978 and has inducted stars such as the Tragically Hip, Bruce Cockburn and Neil Young. Last spring it announced plans to build a music museum in Toronto to house the Hall of Fame.
