Adele to perform Skyfall at the Oscars

Bestselling British singer Adele will give her first live performance in a year when she sings her James Bond theme Skyfall at the upcoming Oscars gala in February.

The acclaimed singer, whose21 was recently named top-selling album for a second consecutive year, gave her last live performance at the 2012 Brit Awards last February.

The official Academy Awards Twitter feed posted a message confirming Adeles appearance: "Best 4 Words Ever: Adele Performing At #Oscars."

In December, Oscar organizers announced the forthcoming edition would include a tribute to the James Bond film franchise, which celebrating its 50th anniversary,as part of the ceremony.

Adele has not yet performed Skyfall,which she co-wrote with her regular collaborator Paul Epworth, in public. However, the songlike the latest 007 film of the same name has been a hit worldwide.

Last year, the singer gave birth to her first child. She won a Golden Globe Awardfor Skyfall earlier this month, dedicating the prize to her partner, Simon Konecki, and their three-month old son.

In the Oscar best original song category, she is competing against:

  • Before My Time from Chasing Ice, music and lyrics by J. Ralph.
  • Everybody Needs A Best Friend from Ted, music by Walter Murphy, lyrics by Seth MacFarlane.
  • Pi's Lullaby from Life of Pi, music by Canadian Mychael Danna, lyrics by Bombay Jayashri.
  • Suddenly from Les Misrables, music by Claude-Michel Schonberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer and Alain Boublil.

The Oscars gala takes place Feb. 24 in Los Angeles.
