Fans, police clash outside Stones concert in Buenos Aires

Police in Buenos Aires clashed with ticketless Rolling Stones fans who attempted to storm the gates at aThursday night concert.

The second of two concerts in Buenos Aires, Thursday night's performance drew scores of people attempting to force their way into the stadium, pushing aside those who had bought tickets.

A battle ensued, pittingpolice armed with clubs, rubber bullets and water cannon against the interlopers, who in turn launched rocks, bricks and bottles at officers.

Emergency workers said at least 20 people had been injured in the clashes, while
police reported that they had detained dozens of people after nearby windows were smashed and cars vandalized.

Police had increased security around the soccer stadium where the concerts were being held after minor scuffles had occurred at Tuesday night's performance, the band's first in Argentina since 1998.More than 50,000 attended.

Authorities had anticipated a similar number for Thursday's sold out show, which eventually got started a half hour late. Tickets prices for theconcerts started at$75 US.

The Rolling Stones are currently on the South American leg of their world tour in support oftheir album A Bigger Bang.

More than one million fans descended on Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana Beach last Saturday for a free concert by the beloved "Estones," the Spanish-English slang moniker for the iconic British band.
