George Clooney rejects Daily Mail apology for 'fabricated' story

American actor George Clooney says the Daily Mail's apology proves the newspaper knew its story about his fiance's family was fabricated. The actor calls it the "worst kind of tabloid," in a new statement in USA Today.

American actor George Clooney isrejecting an apology from the Daily Mailand slamming the British newspaper for being the "worst kind of tabloid."

In a newstatement published Friday in USA Today, Clooney says the Daily Mail'smea culpa proves it knewits story about his fiance's family was "a premeditated lie," but published it anyway.

The statement is the second this week from the typicallyreticent celebrity.

Clooney, 53, first blasted the paper on Wednesdayfor an online story that claimed his fiancee's mother opposed his marriage to Beirut-born lawyerAmal Alamuddin because Clooney doesn't belong to theDruzereligion.

The Daily Mail quickly retracted the story and issued an apology, but Clooney says that'snot enough.

In his latest column, he cites a Daily Mailstory from last April that includes an acknowledgmentthatAlamuddin'smother isn'tDruze.

Clooneysaid the discrepancy provesthe tabloid "makes up its facts to the detriment of its readers and to all the publications that blindly reprint them."
