Hollywood's awards season got underway in earnest Sunday evening at the 71st Golden Globe Awards, which celebrate achievements in film and television.

Famous faces including Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, Robert Redford, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Kerry Washington, Taylor Swift and Usher were among the nominees, presenters and attendees at the glitzy gala at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Hosted for a second consecutive year by comic favourites Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the Globes are the annual awards of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The event is considered a looser, more carefree and wider-ranging toast of Hollywood than the upcoming Oscars.
