Jarreau released from hospital

Singer Al Jarreau has been released from hospital more than a week after experiencing breathing problems while in the French Alps.

Singer suffered from high-altitude breathing problems

A French cardiologist who's been treating Al Jarreau says the Grammy award-winning singer has been discharged from the hospital, more than a week after he was admitted.

The American singer was placed in intensive care July 23 after suffering breathing problems in the Alps and was later moved by helicopter to La Timone hospital in Marseille, which is a much lower altitude.

The incident forced Jarreau to cancel several dates on his European concert tour.

Jean-Louis Bonnet, chief of the cardiology unit at La Timone hospital, said Sunday that Jarreau wants to continue with his tour.

"He wants to return to the stage and see his fans," Bonnet said, adding that he advised Jarreau not to push himself too hard. It's unclear yet when, or if,the 70-year-old performer will resume his tour.

Jarreau has won Grammys in jazz, pop and R&B categories.
