Latest Bond film tops opening-day record

Quantum of Solace, the latest James Bond film, has cracked an opening day record for the franchise, taking in $27 million US in North America on Friday. That breaks the $16.6 million US raked in by 2002's Die Another Day.

That breaks the $16.6 million raked in by 2002's Die Another Day, according to Rentrak Theatrical.

Starring Daniel Craig, who again takes on the role of the super-agent, Quantum of Solace was co-written by Canadian Paul Haggis and directed by Marc Forster.

Quantum, which had its world premiere in London on Oct. 29, has already cleared $200 million US outside of North America over the past two weeks.

It also smashed a British box office record for one-day sales, raking in $9.6 million on its opening day back on Oct. 31.

This is great news for the movie's producers.The film's production had been plagued with mishaps, with shooting in the U.K., Panama, Mexico and Chile.

Craig recently revealed that a co-star had accidentally kicked him, severing his fingertip and requiring eight stitches to his face.

In April, a stuntman crashed a car into Italy's Lake Garda and in a separate incident, another stuntman was seriously injured after crashing into a wall.

The 22nd Bond outing has the secret agent voyaging to South America to stop an eco-terrorist fromtaking control ofthe water supply.
