July 14 at 1 p.m. ET: Is Bruno a good or bad thing for gay visibility?

Bruno, the latest outlandish film from British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat), is arguably the most controversial movie of 2009. It follows the antics of Bruno (Cohen), a flamboyantly gay Austrian fashion reporter who is obsessed with two things:sex and fame. While many of Cohen's confrontational exploits set out to show the homophobia that remains in many parts of society, some critics feel that it actually reinforces many stereotypes about gay men.

We wonder: Is Bruno good or bad for gay visibility?

Join us for a chat on this fertile subject on July 14 at 1 p.m. ET. Our panelists will include Matthew Hays, author of The View from Here: Conversations with Gay and Lesbian Filmmakers, and CBC Arts Online editor Sarah Liss, who recently wrote a feature on the topic ofqueer culture in 2009.
