Madonna to pause tour after bacterial infection resulted in intensive care stay, manager says

Madonna will pause her tour while receivingmedical treatment after developing a "serious bacterial infection" that landed her inan intensive care unit,her manager Guy Oseary wrote in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

After contracting the infection on Saturday, the singer's health is improving and a full recovery is expected, he said, notingthe infection led to a days-long stay in the intensive care unit.

The singer's Celebration Tour was set to begin on July 15 in Vancouver, with stops in Toronto and Montreal for two shows each in August.

According to Oseary, there will be a new start date for the tour and the shows will be rescheduled.

Other commitments will be put on pause too, hewrote.

"We are thinking of Madonna at this time and wishing her a quick recovery. We look forward to picking the tour back up soon," Madonna's concert promoter Live Nationsaid in a statement.

The Grammy-winning pop star's tour, which was scheduled to run into early next year, is a set to be a celebration of her decades of hit music, which includes chart-toppers like Open Your Heart,Vogueand Music.

Madonna recently joined Cher as the only two female artists to have songs hitthe Billboard Top 100 in five separatedecades.

The song Popular, acollaboration with Canadian singer-songwriterThe Weeknd and U.S. rapper Playboi Carti, debuted on the chart earlier this month.
