Mowat, Polley among 7 new Walk of Fame names

Clara Hughes, David Clayton Thomas, Eric McCormack, Farley Mowat, Nelly Furtado, Sarah Polley and the late magician Doug Henning are this year's inductees into Canada's Walk of Fame.

Another seven names will be added to Canada's Walk of Fame in Toronto.

Athlete Clara Hughes, actors Eric McCormack and Sarah Polley, writer Farley Mowat,musicians Nelly Furtado and David Clayton Thomas and the late magician Doug Henning are this year's inductees.

Theceremony and tribute show on Saturdaywas hosted by comedian Howie Mandel, with performances by Jully Black, Alex Cuba, Burton Cummings, Hawksley Workman and Nikki Yanofsky.

Yanofsky was presented with the inaugural Allan Slaight Award, recognizing achievements by a young Canadian.

The honourees were announced in June. Canada's Walk of Fame honours the exceptional achievements of Canadians in the worlds of music, sport, film and television, visual and performing arts, science and innovation.

Nominees musthave beenborn in Canada or have spent their formative or creative years in the country. They must have a minimum of 10 years experience in their field of expertise and have had a national or international impact on Canadian heritage.

Past inductees have included early film star Fay Wray, singer-songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie, hockey great Mario Lemieux, actor Gordon Pinsent, comedy troupe SCTV, rockers Blue Rodeo and children's author Robert Munsch.
