My Babysitter's a Vampire, a Toronto-produced live action show, has won the $50,000 Shaw Rocket Prize after being voted favourite Canadian kid's TV program by a jury of young viewers.

My Babysitters a Vampire, a Toronto-produced live action show, has won the $50,000 Shaw Rocket Prize after being voted favourite Canadian kids TV program by a jury of young viewers.

The show, which airs on Teletoon, follows the adventures of three geeky, sci-fi loving dudes(Ethan, Benny and Ror), their vampire babysitter Sarah and her friend Erica as they defend their town against scary supernatural phenomena.

The childrens jury members said they loved the humour and special effects of the half-hour program, created by Toronto's Fresh TV.

"This show is the best!!! I have seen ALL of the episodes and it is well-written, has good acting, is funny, and the theme is grabbing. A+! This show is my winner!" juror Mariah of Quebec was quoted as saying.

Brian Irving, executive producer of My Babysitters a Vampire, was presented with the Shaw Rocket Prize Tuesday evening in Ottawa.

It was the second time My Babysitters a Vampire, which began life as a TV movie, had been nominated for the prize. It also earned a Gemini nomination in 2011 for its first season.

The jury chose from among five finalists selected by an international jury:

  • Justin Time by Guru Animation.
  • L est la question! by Productions La Fte Inc.
  • Stella and Sam by Radical Sheep Productions.
  • That's So Weird by DHX Media.

The prize, sponsored by Shaw Communications,honours the best independently produced Canadian children's, youth or family programs, as well as accompanying websites, games and other online content.
