Obi-Wan Kenobi reportedly getting a stand-alone movie
Ewan McGregor has said he's open to playing the beloved Star Wars character again
Billy Elliot directorStephen Daldry is in early talks to do a Star Wars spinoff based on the beloved JediknightObi-Wan Kenobi, a character played by Ewan McGregor and Alec Guinness, according to a media report.
The Hollywood Reporter said Thursdaythere's still noscript or leading actor, but Daldry would be helping to develop anorigin story with Lucasfilm.
In April, McGregor, whoplayed the younger Kenobi in the Star Wars prequels, told Entertainment Weekly he would "be happy to do" a stand-alone film aboutthe galaxy far, far away.
The stand-alone Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was released last December. Star Wars: The Last Jedi, is scheduled to hit theatres Dec. 15. Then there's the untitledHanSolo stand-alone movie coming next May.
Daldry is a Tony Award-winning English director and producer.
His feature film debut as director of Billy Elliot earned him an Oscar nomination in 2001, and the movie won for best British film at the BAFTA Awards. Two more Oscar nominations for Daldryas director came in 2003 for The Hours and 2009 for The Reader.
