Filmmaker Roman Polanski might be confined to house arrest in Switzerland, but his latest film is set to see the light of day in 2010.

Independent Hollywood studio Summit Entertainment, the company that released the Twilight teen vampire films and the Iraq war drama The Hurt Locker, has landed a deal to bring Polanski's dramatic thriller The Ghost Writer to North American theatres next year.

After the film debuts at the Berlin International Film Festival in February, the Los Angeles-based studio is set to release The Ghost Writer in North America during the first half of 2010.

Summit has also secured distribution of the suspense film in major territories internationally.

French-born, Oscar-winningfilmmakerPolanski, currently under house arrest at his Swiss chalet in Gstaad, directed and co-wrote the screenplay for The Ghost Writer with Robert Harris, based on the latter's novel, The Ghost.

The film stars Ewan McGregor as a writer hired to complete the memoirs of a former British prime minister, portrayed by Pierce Brosnan. However, the writer lands in hot water when he uncovers secrets from the politician's past.

When he was arrested in Zurich in September, Polanski had been in the midst of post-production on The Ghost Writer. During his incarceration in a Swiss prison in October and November, he completed some sound mixing and other final touches on the film.

Swiss police arrested Polanski based on the outstanding U.S. arrest warrant issued in 1978 when the director fled the U.S. a year after pleading guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl.
