Police expected to announce tour Monday

Rock band The Police have said they will be making an announcement on Monday, the day after they reunite to perform at the Grammy Awards.

Influential British band The Police have said they will be making an announcement on Monday, the day after they reunite to perform at the Grammy Awards.

The announcement is widely expected to be about a reunion tour, with several North American stops.

The band will celebrate their 30th anniversary at the Whiskya Go Go club in Los Angeles on Monday at an event they are calling "The Police Rehearsals."

The band plans to allow 20 "legacy members" of lead singer Sting's official website into the event, the 55-year-old singer announced in a posting Wednesday.

"After the event, we would like the winners to each submit to us 250 words that describes their experience of the day we can say with some certainty that none of you will be lost for words!" the announcement said.

The Police will perform Sunday as part of the Grammy Awards, theirfirst show since 2003, when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Sting fanned speculation of a Police reunion tour when he announced last month that he and former bandmates Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers were "talking about" doing something to commemorate their anniversary.

The Police, who broke up acrimoniously in 1984, recorded hits such asRoxanne and Every Breath You Take.
