Officers will "assess the footage to ascertain whether any action needs to be taken," a police spokesman said.

British tabloid The Sun obtained a video of the 24-year-old singer purportedly inhaling fumes from what looks to be a pipe and splashed grainy images of the footage across its pages on Tuesday.

According to the paper, the footage was captured early Friday, hours before a dishevelled-looking Winehouse turned up at a London court appearance for her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, who isawaiting trial on charges of assault and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

After arriving just minutes before the end of the hearing, she also caused some commotion at the courthouse by calling out to Fielder-Civil as he was being led out.

Winehouse's publicist, Tracey Miller, declined comment, but theaward-winning singer's record label, Universal Records, said ina statement it was "deeply disappointed and upset by these latest revelations and are doing everything we can to offer Amy our full support in dealing with her problems."

The soul singerhas constantly been in the headlines for her erratic behaviour, alleged battle with drugs and her relationship with her husband.

Winehouse, who rocketed to fame with hits like Rehab and You Know I'm No Good from her sophomore album Back to Black, is also one of the top nominees for the upcoming Grammy Awards on Feb. 10.

However, many are questioning whether she will attend the U.S. musical awards show, at which she slated to perform with hit producer Mark Ronson.
