Sandra Oh to get ACTRA honour

Sandra Oh, the Ottawa-born actress who plays Dr. Cristina Yang on Grey's Anatomy, will be honoured by the Canadian actors' union for her contribution to Canadian film and television.

Sandra Oh, the Ottawa-born actress who plays Dr. Cristina Yang on Grey's Anatomy, will be honoured by the Canadian actors' union for her contribution to Canadian film and television.

Oh will be presented with the ACTRA Award of Excellence Jan. 21 at a ceremony in the Canadian consulate in Los Angeles.

Oh trained at the National Theatre School in Montreal and got her start in Canadian TV in The Diary of Evelyn Lau.

She also starred in Canadian films such as Double Happiness, Blindness, 3 Needles and Last Night, winning Genie Awards for Double Happiness and Last Night.In the U.S., her film credits include Under the Tuscan Sun and Sideways.

She has been nominated for an Emmy Award four times for her long-running and popular role in Grey's Anatomy.

ACTRA, the Alliance of Cinema, Television and Radio Artists, annually honours Canadian actors and actresses for their career achievements. Previous winners include Kiefer Sutherland, Tonya Lee Williams, Lloyd Bochner and Leslie Nielsen.
